Tasting Notes

Port Askaig 28 Year Old was bottled from a small, specially selected batch of refill American oak hogsheads. Complex, coastal and peaty, this Islay single malt has herbal aromas of mint, smoked tea leaves and pine, alongside almonds, tropical fruits and vanilla. The palate offers notes of orange peel, custard and cinnamon, alongside salty, savoury notes.
NOSE
A complex mix of medicine cabinets, fresh mint, pine resin, smoked tea leaves and hospital laundry drying on the breeze. Almond flakes, kirschwasser, lychee, guava and pineapple rings in syrup follow. With water, there’s a background of vanilla pods and burnt caramel.PALATE
Oily, generous and meaty with pancetta-wrapped chicken legs, cured speck with bay leaves and salted Padrón peppers. Rich coconut butter, orange peel and Portuguese custard tarts dusted with cinnamon aren’t far behind. Distant wildflower fields of violet, lavender and camphor trees bring a freshness to the table.FINISH
There’s plenty of lingering woodsmoke here, as well as rosemary, menthol and liquorice. It leaves you immediately ready for another sip. -
Tullibardine Distillery was built in 1949 by William Delme-Evans and C.I. Barrett. The former went on to build Jura Distillery in 1960. Tullibardine is situated in Blackford, Perthshire, a short distance from the famous Gleneagles golf course.
NOSE
Trademark grassiness and leafy herbs emerge with hints of citrus zest, followed by wood smoke and wafts of vanilla.PALATE
A gentle spice followed by notes of lychee and banana. The smokiness continues in the background to compliment a very easy and well-balanced dram.FINISH
A long and lively finish with peppery notes. -
This non‐chill‐filtered rare single cask from Tomore has been finished by Gordon & MacPhail – their unique expertise in matching spirit to oak casks, handed down through four generations of the same family shines through in the incredible 27 year old single malt.
NOSE
Fragrant vanilla pod gives way to rich sultana and subtle dark chocolate. Seville orange zest combines with clove and toasted oak.TASTE
Cinnamon and ginger spice complement dark forest fruits with a subtle hint of aniseed. Notes of baked apple leads to stewed raisin s with a faint herbal influence.FINISH
Full and long with lasting summer berries and citrus. -
The Benromach distillery was established in 1898 and as of today is the smallest working distillery in Speyside. This 21 year old single malt is matured in the finest hand-selected first-fill bourbon & sherry oak casks.
NOSE
Sweet sherry aromas with underlying citrus, ginger and oak accompanied by a touch of oak.PALATE
Sweet initially with hints of cracked black pepper, Seville orange and raspberry flavours lead to baked apple and a savoury spice.FINISH
The finish offers gentle charred oak and subtle spices. -
Glen Grant was the first distillery to be built in the town of Rothes, situated in the heart of Speyside.
Its whisky is gaining greater appreciation among malt drinkers due to its longer-matured releases,
spirits that have historically been unavailable.
NOSE
Bruised apples, hessian, orange zest and aged desert wine.PALATE
Gentle oak followed by more soft fruit, hints of wood smoke, chocolate and a pleasing pepperiness.FINISH
Mature seasoned oak lingers long on the finish -
This complex Single Malt was first distilled at the Bunnahabhain Distillery in 2004 and was charged from a refill sherry butt. The resulting, rich spirit boasts peat and spices, bonded with Malt and warm sugar.

Wonderfully redolent of the salty seas, mixed with honey and burnt raisins.PALATE

Mocha flavour to the fore with sweet barely, and sweet home-baking spices. -
A single-grain whisky distilled in 1991 at Cameronbridge distillery in Fife, Scotland. Aged by independent bottler Douglas Laing in a refill hogshead for three decades.
NOSE
Barley sugar, cereal, honey and a lightly burnt butterscotch.PALATE
Sweetness comes through with a background of spice and deep red jams.FINISH
Smooth and sweet with notes of vanilla. -
This Highland single malt from Macduff spent 25 years maturing in a single refill hogshead between 1997 and 2023. That cask (#17100) was finished independent bottler Douglas Laing, creating a total of 280 cask-strength bottles for the Xtra Old Particular series.
NOSE
The nose opens with the sweetest barley notes coupled with honey glazed fruits and a gentle spiciness.PALATE
The palate is fulsome and mouth coating. Initially anticipate custard and a thick creaminess giving way to a lemon meringue pie style.FINISH
The lingering finish reveals more of that earlier spiciness with a touch of cinnamon alongside puff pastry and poached pears. -
This interesting single-grain Scotch from Invergordon was distilled in 2002 and filled into a single cask to mature for 20 years. Independent bottler GreatDrams opened this cask in 2022 to create the perfect expression for their Rare Cask Series.
NOSE
Leather and oak, dry mixed nuts with a tang of fruit and fresh popcorn.PALATE
Gentle spice in the form of cinnamon, baked apples, light vanilla, caramelised sugar and notes of ginger.FINISH
Smooth finish with a touch of oak char, light chocolate notes and a background of caramel. -
Independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail were entrusted with new-make spirit from Linkwood to mature this single malt in their casks. The result is an incredible single malt from Speyside matured from first fill and refill Sherry casks.
NOSE
Rich sherry aromas accompany subtle aniseed and morello cherries. Dark honey infuses with smooth cinnamon spice and a hint of aged leather.PALATE
Smooth fruitcake flavours complement sweet treacle toffee and stewed fruit. Fragrant liquorice comes to the fore alongside toasted hazelnuts.FINISH
A long finish with lingering spice and mature oak. -

NOSE
Juicy blood orange and candied apple aromas combine with a subtle hint of vanilla. Smoke features prominently alongside tart grape fruit and lemon peel.PALATE
Smoky bonfire embers complement baked apple and sweet orange zest. Light and spicy; black pepper develops alongside flavours of milk chocolate with an undertone of aniseed.FINISH

This Tobermory 1995 Sherry Butt from independent bottler Claxton’s is an exquisite 26 year old single malt whisky, aged in a sherry cask and bottled at a cask strength of 52% abv.
NOSE
Sweet ash and gun oil & smoke. Bitter orange.PALATE
Rich spices with oak and a bit more gun oil. Dunnage warehouse notes.FINISH
Long and slightly dry. Long aftertaste with oak and spice.
